All of us experience grief and loss at some point in our lives. Certainly, we grieve the loss of a parent, spouse, child, or close friend. We may even grieve the loss of a pet or a job we loved. Feeling sad at the time of a personal loss is normal. However, if we are not able to work through the heaviness of our loss and re-engage with life at some point in the future, we may need the help of a professional counselor. The unanswered question we all have after an unexpected personal loss is, "Who am I now as a result of this?"
It may surprise you to learn that approximately 1 in 5 American adults suffer from an anxiety disorder, but less than 40% of those suffering seek treatment. Additionally, anxiety and depression often coexist. Nearly one-half of those diagnosed with depression are also diagnosed with an anxiety disorder. The good news is that anxiety disorders and depression caused by illness, pain, financial problems, or other life circumstances are highly treatable and respond very well to individual counseling.
Our lives are full of changes every day. We get married; we get divorced; we have a baby; we move to a different state; we change jobs. All these changes can cause stress, and we begin to feel overwhelmed. Sometimes it is beneficial to seek counseling from a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, who is trained to help you understand your feelings, fears, and concerns about changes in your life. Even planned changes can produce unanticipated stress or worry for a person.
